Junior Hornets Matchday: Celebrate With Us This Weekend!

Watford FC are excited to be celebrating Junior Hornets Matchday as part of Saturday’s game against Blackburn Rovers at Vicarage Road (February 11, 3pm KO).

We will be marking the first 12 months of our refreshed Junior Hornets offering to young Watford supporters with a host of fun activities throughout the afternoon.

It’s also one year since Ann Swanson – a key driver in Watford FC becoming ‘The Original Family Club’ in the late 1970s and 1980s – became the new Junior Hornets patron and had the Family Stand renamed in her honour.

There have been plenty of exciting events, competitions and activities for Junior Hornets to take part in over the past year.

From a behind-the-scenes look at Vicarage Road, to the chance to experience a day in the life of a professional footballer, and a special Vicarage Road Fun Day with Watford FC Women, there has been something for everyone to get involved in and there’s even more to look forward to in 2023!

Read on for some of the things the Junior Hornets have been up to over the last 12 months.

Family Zone

Launched earlier this season, the Watford FC Family Zone features a wide range of activities for all young supporters and their families to enjoy before entering The Vic on matchday, and you don’t have to be a Junior Hornet to attend! The zone, which is free to visit, opens at least two hours before kick-off and is located at Cornerstone Church on Vicarage Road, directly opposite the turnstiles for the Ann Swanson Family Stand.

Grounds Staff Competition

Two Junior Hornets have been invited to join the Grounds Staff for the day, assisting our award-winning team pre-match, during half-time and after this weekend’s game against Blackburn. Having correctly guessed how many squares feature in one goal net at The Vic (4,206), the winners will be helping with important tasks such as setting up the corner flags and goals, painting the white lines and operating the sprinklers.

Away Days

Now a regular event, our designated Junior Hornets Away Days – featuring discounted match tickets and coach travel to selected away fixtures, competitions, games and prizes – have proven popular, with our latest trip to Reading on Saturday (February 4), including a pre-match visit to a trampoline park, selling out!

Lucky Junior Hornets members were invited to play a game of mini-golf at Puttshack Watford in October, where they were surprised by some of their favourite Watford FC players, including Hamza Choudhury, Daniel Bachmann and Helen Ward.

Fun Day

The Watford FC squad met with hundreds of Junior Hornets members at our 2022 Fun Day back in August. Held at the Hornets’ training ground, as part of the special afternoon the coaching and playing staff signed autographs, took photos and got involved with the variety of games that were on offer.

Christmas Party

There was a stellar night of entertainment and fun at the Junior Hornets Christmas Party at Vicarage Road in December. With games, raffles and more taking place, the players were also on hand to take part in photos and sign autographs
